The most common material for enclosures of LED and built-in lamps with LED strip is an aluminum profile. It is considered the most convenient in terms of heat sink, structural strength and ease of processing.
However, in recent years, more and more popular is the use instead of an aluminum LED profile - an extrusion polycarbonate profile, which simultaneously acts as a luminaire housing and a diffuser for LEDs. An example is the profile 4968 in which both the housing and the LED diffuser are combined into one piece.
Polycarbonate profile can be either completely transparent, or opal, glossy and matte. The polycarbonate profile can consist of two integrated chambers, one of which can be made of an opaque material and the other of a light-scattering material. In the transparent (light-scattering) chamber, the LED strip is laid, and the power supply for the LEDs can be placed in the second one.
